Purge 2.0

Seven years ago I spent three months clearing our home of 17 years during what I called The Great Purge. It was exhausting, physically and emotionally. Half of our things were sold, donated, or tossed. Of what remained, some made its way across the Atlantic, but most of it went into secure storage.

When we took on this adventure, we had committed to two years. We were not sure what might happen beyond that. It was a big experiment.

It’s safe to say that what is in storage is no longer serving us and there is no room in our current life for them — although some items are painful to part with. It’s time for Purge 2.0. Below is a list of items now available for purchase.

A few important notes

  1. Cash only
  2. All sales are final
  3. No shipping or transportation; you must collect the item in Napa.
  4. Items will be available for pick-up during specific days/times due to the logistics of the storage facility (to be determined)
  5. If you know me, you know that these items are in good to excellent condition. They have been carefully stored at a secure facility.
  6. If you are interested in any of these items, send a bid/offer to me directly emilyavila (at) gmail.com.

A. Gold gothic-style mirror — I bought this in a cute shop in Carmel. Starting bid $50.

B. Curio cabinet — this proudly displayed my glassware; purchased it at the Design Center in SF. Starting bid $250

C. Two stands — Wood with a dark stain. 12″ x 12″ x 38″ Starting bid $50 for both.

D. Buffet — this treasure was in terrible condition when we bought the house. It was likely original to our 1924-built house. I had a master restorer bring it back to life and build the mirrored back to match. It’s a stunning piece, made of solid eucalyptus, and is one of my favorite pieces of furniture. Sigh.

E. Sofa — this sofa was barely used; dark cream linen with bolster pillows. Original price was $3,500.

F. Dresser — RH Marston tall dresser by Restoration Hardware was manufactured by
by Michaels Furniture. Hand built of solid North American black cherry and cherry veneers. Eight drawers, antiqued brass-plated pull handles; dovetail joinery; excellent construction.

G. Wardrobe Dresser — RH Marston wardrobe dresser by Restoration Hardware. Consists of 10 pullout drawers with one swing door with inner shelving. Dustproof panels between each drawer and wood-on-wood glides. Antiqued brass-plated hardware. One handle fell off in the move but I still have it so it can be replaced

H. Cedar Trunk — fabric top, cedar lined; the ‘drawers’ are decorative only. It opens from the top.

I. Dining Table — I have hosted EPIC meals on this custom-built table, including my famous Tavolavila events, wine tastings, and New Year’s Eve “Last Suppers.” It comes with two 24″ leaves to create a huge table, measuring 66″ x 90″, that easily seats 12 – 14. I will include the custom felt pads to protect it, as well as a custom tablecloth.

why not sell in fb, craigslist, etc?

This is a private sale, for family & friends and those they refer.

Honestly, I don’t want the hassle. This hilarious post pretty much sums up my expectations regarding the entire enterprise of selling these precious items to the randos of social media. My faith in humanity is at an all-time low and I don’t need to reinforce my growing contempt for the “general public.”

There are a number of household items for sale, too, including:

  • A safe (still in the box)
  • A space heater
  • Car tire snow chains
  • Drapes
  • Desk lamp
  • Stemware
  • Down comforters (queen)
